A is not for Apple, it is for 50 bucks

There is a great debate going on in the Chicago Public School system that started last week when the district announced a program that would pay students $50 dollars if they receive an A in a class. A ‘B’ grade constitutes $35 and a ‘C’ grade grants the student $20.

The debate of course is whether or not this is an ethical decision to bride the students into working hard and achieving a high GPA.

Hold on a second.

Isnt that what real life is? If you do a decent job at your career you get money for it, if you fail at it you get fired and no money is given to you. Shouldn’t schools be the same way? Schools these days don’t have any real incentive to give students to do well in their studies. Sure they have the “it will get you into college,” but even with straight As college is not gaurenteed. So why not pay them? They get good grades and maybe they can save up for their higher education.

I do know that I would do a lot better at my studies if Iw as getting paid for all the hard work I am putting in and the time I am using. I am already forking over $22,000 a year for college, why not get a little back for my dedication?

In my opinion, for what it counts, is that this pilot program just might work. The world revolves around money whether we like it or not, might as well get the kids in on the deal sooner than later.
