And I am back

So where have I been?

Here I am sitting on my ass for the past few days, thinking I want to get involved with mobile and social journalism and I have not even posted for almost five days. Way to fail on that one Colin.

Let’s get started shall we?

last night as a group of friends casually got together to casually drink college class beer, one mentioned that he was happy with just working. No school, no higher education. Having a full time job during the day, coming home in the evening and repeating the process over once again day by day. The only thing getting higher is the pay I would assume.

As I laid there, not mentioning what my mind was thinking at the time, I just thought to myself, how could someone so easily dismiss a higher education that even in today’s economy guarantees a higher salary and a better way of life in general?

According to a Chicago Tribune article on Oct. 14 “Is college worth it?”, the US Census reports that having a bachelors degree in today’s world still guarantees that you make on average $59,000 a year-compare that to the average of $33,000 a year for non-college graduates. Which one would you prefer?

It shocked me to hear him say that. All last year he constantly talked about what goals he had in life. Movie producer, director, anything and everything that had to do with movies. Towards the end of the year he found a passion for animated television and he always talked about it. It makes me sad to think that he might be throwing away a possible talent that he has not let grown into its full potential.

As for me, I could not imagine a life without college. Yes it is expensive. Yes it is a lot of work, but in the end I feel that it will pay off. Already I am learning things I could not learn on my own. I would not have a prayer in writing if it was not for Columbia.

So is college worth it?

You better bet your credit score it is.
